HDR Engineering, Inc., is seeking a Traffic Engineer for our Dallas, TX office

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Traffic Engineer, we'll count on you to:

Support design-related services for transportation projects for highway, state, city, and county roadways including design-build projects. Projects include traffic system operations and design, interchange/intersection analyses, signal system design and re-timing, operational analysis, roadway capacity analysis, traffic safety studies, traffic signal, signing, and pavement marking and design, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS). Duties: Prepare Plan, Specification and Estimate (PS&E) plans including design of traffic signals, signing and pavement marking, illumination and intelligent transportation system plans; signal system and interconnect design and implementation, traffic safety study reports, intersection and interchange operational analyses using HCS, SYNCHRO, SIMTRAFFIC and other applicable Transportation Engineering Models; analyze, optimize, implement and fine tune traffic system timings along major corridors equipped with NEMA/170/2070 controllers using SYNCHRO, SIMTRAFFIC,TRU-TRAFFIC and VISSIM; serve as technical support in advanced methods of traffic signal system analysis, optimization, and review ITS plans; conduct traffic engineering design for roadways, intersections, parking and pedestrian facilities. Perform other duties as assigned. Individuals with desire to assist in business development is a plus.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Traffic/Transportation Engineering.
  • minimum 5 years' experience in traffic engineering position for urban and rural highways.
  • Texas P.E. License or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Education or experience must include traffic operations and safety; highway capacity analysis; traffic operational analysis; Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); designing and implementing traffic signal system timings; and preparing PS&E plans.
  • Must have demonstrated working skills with Microstation, SIGN CAD, AGI-32 and micro-simulation modeling and operational analysis using SYNCHRO, SIMTRAFFIC, VISSIM, and HCS and other applicable Transportation Engineering Models.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
