Associate General Counsel-Regulatory Affairs
The Associate General Counsel - Regulatory Affairs, is responsible for managing or assisting in the management of and providing legal advice to the organization on complex matters involving federal, state and self-regulatory organizations and regulators and serves as a primary point of contact for said agencies. This role will assist in the oversight of regulatory matters and communications with government agencies. advise and counsel lines of business within the organization on regualtory matters, counsel senrior leaders on the formulation of regulatory strategy, and help ensure compliance with all laws and regulations. The role also will be responsible for managing and overseeing the work of a team of attorneys and supervises outside cousel.
Responsiblities
  • Interact with regulatory agencies and senior management and assist the Deputy General Counsel - Regulatory Affairs in formulating, managing and responding to regulatory inquires and examinations as well as in preparing and approving regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate and/or prepare written responses/filings and oversee filings to regulators.
  • Advise and counsel senior and executive management and internal departments about risk areas and provide legal guidance regarding Comerica's procedures and requirements.
  • Work with Comerica's enterprise risk, including opearational risk, financial risk and compliance units to provide legal review and risk assessment/compliance advice on various products, services and business practices.
  • Manage staff in multiple locations and states. Develop and mentor direct reports and develop succession plans for key attorneys.
  • Provide direction to staff attorneys regarding the review and resolution of regulatory and legal risk in the development and maintenance of legal and regualtory strategies and related actions.

Qualifications
  • JD from an accredited law school and the ability to be licensed in Texas within a reasonable time.
  • 15 or more years Regulatory affairs. Prior employment with a banking regulator or a federalor state regulated financial institution is highly desirable.
