The Central Life Sciences (CLS) business unit is dedicated to improving the health, well-being, and the protection of companion animals, economic animals, plants, stored grains and the environment from damaging pests We are seeking an experienced Senior Formulations Chemist to join our Dallas, TX research & development team.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Formulations, the Senior Formulations Chemist will design product formulation prototypes and evaluate them for chemical and physical properties, performance and stability. He/she will prepare and provide samples for biological laboratory/field testing for efficacy and safety. He/she will assist in scale-ups from prototype to commercial manufacture, particularly as they relate to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and in obtaining process technology and equipment information for production. The senior formulations chemist will assist in obtaining data and information required for regulatory submissions and patent applications and provide technical service support for Operations and Consumer Relations. This is a full-time, on-site position.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
  • Design, develop and produce prototype formulations of pest management products for various markets supported by the R&D group. Innovative formulations development of granules, liquids, powders, aerosols, RTUs would be required.
  • Prepare and follow appropriate operating procedures, protocols and specifications, research formulas, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the like. Assure that all work done is in compliance with good laboratory practices (GLPs) and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) set by all government agencies.
  • Serve as formulary representative on assigned project teams and following a commercialization process for development of new products. Prepare written reports on the planning, progress and status of formulary development activities to the project teams. Respond to requests from manufacturing, marketing, technical services, project management, regulatory, analytical and quality assurance, for data, information and technical assistance.
  • Assist manufacturing in the scale-up of new products from lab bench to production scale and from inprocess blending to the packaging of the finished products.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers of chemicals and other raw materials vendors.
  • Keep abreast of current and emerging technical developments, and technologies through available information resources and continuing education at courses and seminars.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
  • MS or PhD in surface/colloid chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacy, cosmetics, or related field required.
  • Prefer -5-7 years of experience in formulation development of insect control products, veterinary or human pharmaceuticals, or personal care products.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing and work within a team environment.
  • Ability to use and operate laboratory equipment and instruments for use in mixing, measuring, and compounding materials.
  • Ability to observe phenomena, analyze their significance, correlate their parameters, interpret their meaning, to recommend further action or direction.
  • This position requires an exceptionally high degree of integrity, creativity, innovation and maintain ahigh degree of concentration and focus.
  • Knowledge in analytical instrumentation desirable, but not required.
  • Competence in mathematics is of considerable importance.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of organic chemistry and. aspects of physical chemistry and calculus are required.
  • Ability to use computer office systems and applications effectively is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The position involves the occasional operation of large equipment and the ability to handle as much as 50 pounds on a routine basis.
  • Work hours are divided between office, laboratory, and on-location field sites. Safety apparel is required in the lab or production areas, i.e. safety glasses (always), lab coat, gloves, respirators or dust masks (as appropriate).
  • Requires the willingness and ability to travel 5% of the time for customer meetings, industry events and business unit visits.
